    Dear Parents of 4th and 5th Grade Studens,

    In a few short weeks, your child will begin learning the soprano recorder during music class! The 
    recorder is a woodwind instrument played by blowing a thin stream of air through the instrument and 
    placing the fingers over the holes.
    Our recorder unit is set to begin the week of October 7th, 2025, during your child's scheduled 
    music class. Recorders may either be purchased online or from a local music store. There are some 
    school recorders available if needed, however limited supply. Please reach out to me if you need a 
    school recorder. Recorders purchased from outside sources should be Baroque Soprano Recorders (no 
    German styles!)

    Here is a good recorder option to search for on Amazon:
    •  Yamaha YRS-248 Soprano Recorder (any color is fine)
    Once our recorder unit has started, the recorders will remain in the music room until the end of 
    the school year. If your child will want to practice at home, I suggest purchasing one for home as well. This is optional. I will send them home at the end of the school year.   

    Fourth  graders will use them again in 5ᵗʰ grade. Please make sure that your child's recorder is labeled 
    with their first and last name with a permanent marker or label.
